Four Off the Floor

Before the advent of photography in the late 1800s, nobody knew if all four of a horse's hooves came off the ground at the same time during a gallop. They were too fast for the human eye to perceive. English-American photographer Eadweard Muybridge put the question to rest in 1878 with a set of photos called "The Horse in Motion." True story!
