Music for Western Writers

January 23, 2014

Colt and KeyboardSorry for the radio silence, friends. I’ve been hard at work on the first draft of my Weird Western, Ghost Marshal.¬†Hopefully I’ll start editing and designing the cover in the next couple of weeks. Then it’s on to Book 2. No rest for the wicked!

People sometimes ask me if I listen to music while I write. Why, yes. Yes I do. Some writers need absolute silence when they work, but a good playlist gets me in the proper mindset. Here’s a list of music I’ve been listening to while I scribble. It’s good stuff, nice and moody. It includes my favorite Morricone classics, plus other soundtracks. There are also some standalone pieces that kick ass, like Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” and Dave Porter’s theme for “Breaking Bad.” When I’m writing a scene where the characters prep for a gunfight, you can’t beat The Black Angels’ “The Sniper at the Gates of Heaven.” And when the bullets start flyin’, crank up Nero’s “Doomsday.” Enjoy!

Wow, will the cover be your photo work? I’m wondering what you’ll use for Ghost Marshall… hm. Gonna be good!
