Night Riders
Day 1 of the 2011 Hamel Rodeo, Corcoran, MN. By the time the bull-riding event rolled around, the sun was long gone. Even at ISO 1600, I was shooting at 1/30 sec., not exactly an action-stopping speed. I brought out the wide-angle lens and started shooting interesting compositions. In this frame I got lucky with a bull rider getting tossed, though I wish the bull had had the courtesy to come a little closer to my shooting position.
In post, I tried my best to balance the various artificial lights flooding the arena. What a nightmare. Then I gave the highlights a glow effect, which gave the scene a kind of storybook look. Lastly I opened up the shadows a little, and then knocked down the noise with my old pal Nic Dfine.
Thanks for visiting, friends!
